Jenkyn Place Vineyard is set on the south facing slopes of the North Downs between Farnham and Alton, near the village of Bentley in North East Hampshire, looking down on the Wey valley.
The first three acres of vines were planted in 2004, and more vines have been planted every year since. The planted area now stands at 13 acres. Many years ago, Bentley was a great hop growing area, and the whole vineyard is planted on former hop gardens. The soil is greensand over marlstone and chalk – very similar to the soil in the Champagne growing area in France – and is ideally suited to growing the grapes needed to make the finest quality English Sparkling Wine.
Grape Varieties
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Wines
Sparkling White and Sparkling Rose.
The first Jenkyn Place vintage was the 2006, which won medals at the UKVA wine of the year competition as well as winning the Wessex Wine of the Year Trophy. The 2007 has also won a silver medal. The first Rose, from the 2008 vintage is now available.
