NYETIMBER
Nyetimber Vineyard in Sussex, England’s leading sparkling wine producer has been sold by Andy Hill to Eric Heerema as a going concern.
A knowledgeable and keen wine enthusiast Mr Heerema, who already owns a vineyard near Petworth, Sussex has acquired Nyetimber with a view to investing in the vineyard and further building its reputation and raising the quality of the wine.
Mr Heerema who becomes Chief Executive of Nyetimber said: “I am absolutely delighted to have acquired such a prestigious vineyard that produces wine with a worldwide status. I am planning to develop and expand the existing operations implemented by Stuart and Sandy Moss which Andy Hill has so successfully continued. We will be planting more vines this year to enable us to increase production.”
During this next transition phase Christopher Varley, a management consultant with extensive experience in the drinks industry, has been appointed as interim General Manager. Dermot Sugrue will continue as winemaker.
Since 1988, Nyetimber has pioneered the reputation of the UK’s ability to produce a sparkling wine that rivals Champagne and has helped strengthen the perception that English wine is really worth drinking. The Nyetimber vintages have gone from strength to strength over the years, each one winning top awards and gold medals and beating the best France can offer in blind tasting tests on both sides of the Channel.
Nyetimber produces two wines; a 100 % Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs and the Classic Cuvee made with a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It is served at many high profile events including last summer’s IOC dinner at Buckingham Palace which helped secure London’s bid for the 2012 Olympics as well as at top restaurants including Gordon Ramsay, Petrus, Oxo Tower, Rhodes 24 and Rick Stein.
Nyetimber is available from Waitrose, Majestic and many independent retailers.
